PREVILI
Prevention of Lung Injury in Neonatal and Paediatric Patients
The PREVILI project, led by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), aims to prevent ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) in neonatal and paediatric patients. Given that mechanical ventilation can cause damage to developing lungs, this research aims to identify the most appropriate ventilation mode and optimal parameters for each patient, minimising the risk of respiratory complications.
📊 Project objectives:
✅ Develop mechanical biomarkers to predict the onset of VILI.
✅ Analyse different ventilation modes to establish safe settings.
✅ Apply artificial intelligence to personalise ventilation according to the patient’s physiognomy and clinical condition.
✅ Reduce mortality in neonatal and paediatric ICUs associated with VILI.
🔬 Methodology
The team will collect clinical and ventilation data from patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and apply machine learning (ML) models to predict the risk of VILI and recommend the best ventilation strategy.
📅 Duration: 2023-2026
🌍 Expected impact: Improve the safety of mechanical ventilation in neonatal and paediatric patients, reducing complications and improving quality of life.
